Each year an Artist-In-Residence is selected to co-curate the In This Place season and produce one major creative project. In 2027, we are going back to our beginnings! The 2027 In this Place Artist-In-Residence will write an updated script and produce a staged reading of Union: The Musical. Originally produced in 2018, in commemoration of MLK50, Union: The Musical tells the story of The Sanitation Workers’ Strike of 1986. Both experienced & emerging play writes are welcomed to apply.
Our 2027 Artist-In-Residence will receive:
- Living-wage stipend & housing to support the artist’s time and creative leadership
- Project support budget for materials, collaborators, and presentation costs
- Access to community spaces, archives, and storytelling platforms
- Training in The Big We core curriculum and access to the Big We community
- Professional visibility through The Big We’s communications and networks
- Opportunity to shape a widely recognized cultural program rooted in Memphis history and community
