Community Sing started with a simple idea: bring Memphis together to create something as one, and let that something be joy. No solos. No auditions. No experience needed. Just one song, taught step by step, until an entire room becomes a single voice.
Community Sing is back again for Memphis’ 901 Day celebrations on August 30th at 3 PM, joined by the Tennessee Mass Choir, its Executive Director, Dr. Jason Clark, and Emmy-nominated vocal arranger and founder of Melodic Minds Music Academy, Markevius Faulker. WHY WE SING
Community Sing exists because Memphis is stronger when it creates something together, and joy is worth building on purpose. Every gathering is a small practice of the Beloved Community we’re working toward.

Community Sing is open to everyone! Every age, every background, every comfort level. You do not need to be a singer to belong in the room. You only need to show up.

Each Community Sing centers on a single song, taught step by step until the entire room/crowd can carry it together. No rehearsal required, just presence and a willingness to try.

Community Sing carries the spirit of the 1968 Sanitation Workers’ Strike, honoring Memphis’ legacy of showing up together and using our voices for something bigger than ourselves.

BELOVED COMMUNITY
Community Sing is how The Big We’s vision of Beloved Community sounds out loud: A Memphis rooted in love, safety, joy, and abundance. When we sing together, we practice what that vision feels like. Everyone is welcome, safe, and able to add their voice to something greater than themselves.
A COMMUNITY SING TIMELINE
April 2025, Royal Studios
The first Community Sing, an intimate gathering during the 2025 In This Place season, where Memphis first raised its voice together.
901 Day 2025, W.C. Handy Park
Community Sing grew into a public celebration, bringing in local choirs and a wider circle of Memphis to the park for 901 Day.
February 2026, Crosstown Concourse
The biggest Community Sing yet, opening the In This Place season with 195 Memphians in the room alongside the Tennessee Mass Choir.
